The Evolving Identity of GenZ Youth based on the Collective Identity of Millennials

Young, independent India has travelled milestones of a polarised society influenced by religion, caste, westernized thoughts and gender differences. Millennials navigated diverse beliefs a decade ago, paving the way for a new India driven by Gen Z, emphasizing pluralism and inclusivity that celebrate the country's unique identity amidst differences. Gen Z also strives to become mental health ambassadors to acknowledge the wider acceptance of mental health as a trending lifestyle.

Not more than a decade ago, millennials in their late teens to 30 years, driven by westernized thoughts, travelled overseas to validate their talent, gain wealth and propagate their identity. The beginning of sociopolitical changes in 2014 invited major investments from western countries in India, initiating a promising land of revival for those who believed in traditional culture to meet western thoughts.

Major decisions to return to their native country hallmarked the broad vision of many millennials’ patriotic desires to work for the country. Thus began a massive role for start-ups, entrepreneurs and corporate companies. Millennials collectively identified with the country for they focused not on the differences but on the strategies to unify the differences. Their beliefs and ideology were often belittled by cultural variations, political oppositions, economical fluctuations yet they remained strong and courageous to build young India with the differences.

It is time to reflect back on these milestones of every millennial’s journey, who have now turned into parents, teachers, professionals, authorities, mentors and guides for Generation Z population, who look promising torch bearers to lead India with inclusivity and pluralism.

The current young population, Generation Z, in the age group of teens to young adults, are ideal examples for global citizens with a majority of their lifestyle backed by social media influence and global outlooks. They represent the current first-time voters to participate in elections and they hold a sensational, pan-India thought process to elect their leaders. They represent the cultural values of our country in the global forum with pride. They are optimistic and promising to share traditional values, personal ideologies and sociopolitical upheavals in the world forum as their identity, backed by technology, education and the support of millennials.

They are a strong alliance to mould India towards the Vikshit Bharat 2040 vision. The true collective spirit of millennials' vision has paved the way for the young generation to showcase a diversified pan-India with true spirit and patriotism. Generation Z's unique identity promotes a positive, healthy lifestyle. They advocate for mobile desensitization, active reading, and destigmatizing mental health issues, shaping their role as mental health influencers and advocates through their experiences and practices.

Generation Z also represent themselves as strong advocates for mental health ambassadors. They participate and engage in volunteer programs to destigmatise the myths and societal taboos. They focus on resilience and hard work as their strategy towards success.

Let 2026 be a game-changer, inspiring this generation to become visionary leaders and ambassadors of positive mental health, and torchbearers of Vision India 2040 under millennial guidance.
