That Girl, Clean Girl, Pink Girl: When Aesthetics Become Anxiety

On social media, trends like “That Girl,” “Clean Girl,” and “Pink Girl” are everywhere. These trends show a perfect and pretty lifestyle. They include waking up early, drinking green juice, having glowing skin, clean rooms, soft outfits, and calm vibes. At first, they seem inspiring. But for many young people, especially girls, they bring pressure and stress. What starts as motivation slowly turns into anxiety.

How These Trends Became Popular

Today, aesthetics are not just about how something looks. They are also about how someone lives. The “That Girl” trend shows a girl who wakes up at 5 am, writes in her journal, exercises, eats healthy, and looks like she has everything under control. The “Clean Girl” trend is about natural beauty, simple makeup, tied hair, and soft clothes. The “Pink Girl” is about soft and sweet looks, usually with a love for pink things.

These trends seem healthy at first. They promote a clean lifestyle and good habits. But when someone feels like they must follow it all the time to be good enough, it can become overwhelming. Life is not always pretty and perfect.

Is it Motivation or Perfectionism?

It is good to be inspired and make changes. Many people try waking up earlier, doing skincare, or starting a morning routine. But it becomes a problem when they feel they must do it every day without a break. They start thinking their life is not good enough if it is not picture perfect.

On platforms like Instagram or TikTok, people only show the best parts of their lives. You do not see their messy days or their struggles. When you watch those videos, you might think your life is behind or boring. You begin to compare and feel pressure to change everything just to keep up.

How does it affect mental health?

Trying to live a perfect life can make people feel anxious, sad, or tired. If they miss one thing in their routine like skipping a workout or eating something unhealthy they feel guilty. Over time, this can hurt their confidence.

Also, most of these trends show only one type of person. Usually someone who is thin, rich, and able to spend money on skincare or clothes. Many people cannot afford that or do not fit that image. This makes others feel left out or less than.

Is It Still Self Care

Self care is about taking care of yourself. But now it is sometimes treated like a task to complete or something to show online. Instead of resting, people feel they have to post about how they rest. Lighting a candle or taking a bath becomes something they do for a video not for their own peace.

Not everyone can follow these routines every day. People with mental health issues or different abilities may find it difficult. These trends do not always show that. So others may feel alone or like they are doing something wrong.

What Can Help

You can enjoy trends without letting them control you. You do not need to be “That Girl” or “Clean Girl” to be a good person. You can have your own version of what feels good. Maybe that means sleeping a bit more, eating what you enjoy or having a messy desk and still feeling proud.

Choose what you follow online. If a page or video makes you feel pressured or not good enough you can unfollow it. Follow people who are honest and real. People who talk about good days and bad days both. Your social media should feel like a safe place not a competition.
